‘Summer House’ Season 7 Review: Carl And Lindsay Against The House

Three new cast members are giving the show a much-needed mini-reboot after a few seasons of Southern Charm-influenced drama.

Bravo’s Summer House returns for Season 7 this coming Monday and if the first episode sets the tone, it will be Carl Radke and Lindsay Hubbard against the world — er, house, that is.

The house may be the same but the cast most certainly is not. In addition to Carl and Lindsay, Amanda Batula and Kyle Cooke are also back this season as the now-married-but-still-disfunctional pair. Paige De Sorbo, and Season 6 newbie Mya Allen also return, with viewers also being quickly introduced to newbies Samantha Feher, Chris Leoni, and Gabby Prescod.

While Ciara Miller and Danielle Olivera make appearances in the very-dramatic Season 7 trailer, they join the housemates at a later date and do not appear in tonight’s premiere. Luke Gulbranson, Andrea Denver, and Alex Wach are also all missing from the new season, reseting the Vanderpump Rules-adjacent series once again. (Andrea will return for an episode or two later this season, however.)

Kyle already has an issue with Carl (and Lindsay) in the Season 7 premiere of Summer House.

It all seems to work, however. Maybe it is because the newbies are not afraid to jump right in and get to know the housemates unlike some previous cast additions or maybe it is because the veterans are all committed to making a great show. It could also be the fact that there are no Southern Charm cast members in sight. Whatever the vibe is, it is working so far for Summer House Season 7.

In the first episode of the Bravo series, titled “Star Spangled Feud,” the cast at large quickly takes to focusing on the very in love Carl and Lindsay. Mya sees changes in Carl that she does not like and combined with Kyle being upset about Carl’s work performance, the two team up to put their former friend on front street.

Mya’s issues seem to have to do with the cast’s appearance on Family Feud last year and while she may end up being vindicated with her take on Carl and Lindsay’s relationship, it comes off as an amateur season two move but the newbie should be commended on putting things out there with her co-star and not waiting long to do so.

The strategy does not stop, however, as the episode ends with a cliffhanger blowup that shows Carl and Lindsay are not about to sit around and take their housemates’ criticisms, at least not so early into the summer. Judging by Kyle’s recent stint on The Traitors, he seems to like the gameplay but only future episodes of Summer House will make it clear whether his decision to turn on his former friends was the right move.

At this point in his tenure on the show, Kyle needs something other than his constant drama with Amanda to keep him interesting and now, he has an issue with Carl seemingly wanting to stay on the straight and narrow by avoiding alcohol and working on his personal fitness. But in Kyle’s own infamous words, “summer should be fun” and everyone’s summer can look different if they so choose.

If only he followed his own house rules.

Summer House Season 7 premieres Monday, February 13 at 9pm ET/PT on Bravo and Slice in Canada.
