Season 10 of Vanderpump Rules is currently taking over Wednesday nights, with the longtime Bravo series seeing some of its highest-rated episodes in years. In an EXCLUSIVE new interview with TV Deets, the iconic Scheana Shay tells all about her dream wedding, what it’s been like watching Vanderpump Rules Season 10 back amid Scandoval, and what’s the deal with Brandi Glanville.
Welcome to Toronto! Thank you for taking a few minutes to chat with TV Deets today. This has been a big week for you. You had a birthday a couple days ago,a big win at the MTV Movie & TV Awards, and this is a huge season for Vanderpump Rules… How does it feel to be Scheana right now?
Scheana Shay: A little exhausted, but good overall! [Laughs] It’s been just a lot of travel and a lot going on recently but it’s all fun and I’m doing good.
And then we have the Scandoval on top of all of it!
Scheana: Exactly! [Laughs]
You recently celebrated Summer Moon’s second birthday and the Vanderpump Rules cast was in attendance. How do you balance your businesses and your role on the show with being a super mom?
Scheana: Being a working mom and traveling, you know, it’s hard. You definitely get the mom guilt but I know everything I’m doing is in the best interest of my daughter. I try to keep my work trips as short as possible to get home to her because I don’t like missing time. I’m gone for a day and there’s something new that she learns or tries. Like yesterday, she had caviar for the first time! I missed it, but I got the videos.
And Brock is holding down the fort at home?
Scheana: Yes, he’s holding down the fort at home. He’s giving her caviar. [Laughs]
You’ve also created a new lash line, Viva Verano Lashes. Congratulations! Tell me what it was like getting that project off of the ground.
Scheana: I have always loved lashes for as long as I can remember. Strip lashes has been my thing and I’ve thought about doing a lash line for a really long time and it just took partnering with the right people, getting the right packaging, the right product. These are 3D foam mink and they have a thin strip. You can wear them up to 10 times. We already sold out in one of our styles, so we have two still available. I’m wearing the moon ones right now. And I love it… this is my new little baby.
I also saw they are vegan and animal-friendly.
Scheana: Yes! All cruelty free, one hundred percent. It’s called Viva Verano, which means long-lived summer.

I want to talk about Vanderpump Rules and everything that’s been going on in the show with this alternate timeline that you all seem to be living through. You found out about Scandoval the night that you taped Watch What Happens Live with Raquel. What was your initial reaction?
Scheana: I mean, that’s when it was confirmed, right? I had already been onto them for like a month at this point and had questioned both of them. But that night after Watch What Happens Live, that’s when it just all came to the forefront and I couldn’t believe that it was actually true. It was one of the things that I questioned but didn’t actually think could be true. Once I found out it was confirmed and there was just no remorse in her eyes, it was a very wild moment. Because I’m like, “who are you?”
That’s a tough position for you. You’ve been Ariana’s very best friend for years and you kind of brought her on the show.
Scheana: No, I forced her on the show. [Laughs]
Oh really?
Scheana: Yes. I was like “come film this show with me. These girls are bitches and I need someone on my side. You’re filming it.” So, it was like pulling teeth to get her to do the show.
How does Ariana feel about being on the show now?
Scheana: I think by now, you know, look at all the opportunities that it has brought us. But at the same time, she was not keen on filming. Like the first season when she was my backup dancer, she was literally like hands buried, had buried in her hands in her face and just was like, “get these cameras away from me!”
That performance was killer, by the way. A stellar introduction to Ariana. What has it been like watching Vanderpump Rules Season 10 now that you’re seeing all of the little seeds that have been planted by Tom and Raquel?
Scheana: It’s been the craziest season to watch back ever because when it was in front of our face at the time and Katie and Lala were saying “oh, there’s something going on,” I was like, “no, there’s not. You’re crazy. That’s so weird for you to think that, like you don’t know how our friendship works.” And now watching it back, knowing what we know and seeing the scenes with Lala and Katie and James and people thinking something is up and I was just so oblivious. I mean, you know, I choose to see the best in people I love and who I’m friends.
I could have never imagined they would be capable of this level of betrayal. Watching it back, it is gnarly how obvious it is. Like it’s so obvious that from an outsider, I’m like, “now I see what you guys saw.” But when you’re in it and these are your best friends, you just see the best in them and think “they would never do that.”
That’s the thing with Vanderpump Rules, there is always so much going on in any given scene and season so it must make it hard to see what is real and what is fake.
Scheana: Exactly.
You had your beautiful wedding in Mexico and we got those amazing scenes of Katie and Kristina watching from the balcony, which I think will go down in VPR history as one of the most iconic moments. What was it like watching your wedding back?
Scheana: It was so beautiful. I was really happy with how that all came together. There was no cut to someone talking shit about my dress, it was just the moment. Even the parts where you saw Katie and Kristina on the balcony, they said nothing but kind words. So in hindsight now, I am bummed that it went down the way it did and that we didn’t sit down and have a conversation sooner because I don’t think it needed to escalate to the point that it did. I was just so team Raquel all season and I was just like, “no Katie, you’re wrong.”
I didn’t see the other side of it but now watching it back, seeing Katie’s perspective, understanding exactly where she was at and what she was going through… I just wish I had a conversation with her sooner.
You’ve said on your podast Scheaningans that you both are much closer now.
Yes, and we have a DJ Trio now! Me and Katie and Ariana, we are still thinking of our DJ name. I’m thinking we maybe just call it V.P.R. but it stands for something else. We did these “Every Nite Is VPR Nite” hoodies that sold really well. I’m like, “wait, is our DJ name just like VPR?” [Laughs]
Maybe this is the trio and the team that needed to happen, just in a really wrong way. It’s all coming together.
Scheana: I think so!
Bravo has dropped the shocking teaser for the season finale, which airs on May 17. What was your reaction to the trailer when it dropped?
Scheana: I was shaking! I wasn’t prepared to watch that yet… I just was not mentally and emotionally prepared to watch that when I did see [the trailer]. That was wild because we lived it but then watching it back is just crazy.
What can fans expect from the Season 10 finale?
Scheana: I think you’re just gonna get the full truth. I think you’re gonna find out — well, I mean maybe it’s not the full truth cause I don’t believe [Tom and Raquel] are telling the full truth at all. [Laughs] I think you’ll get more of an insight into the timeline and you’ll get some truth. You will get a full story from Ariana’s perspective.
Is this where we will see the new footage you all filmed after picking up cameras again when Scandoval broke?
Scheana: This week [May 10] is the original season finale. Then, next week is all of the new stuff that we filmed and I haven’t seen any of it. I know what I filmed but I’ve not seen any of it yet. I can imagine it’s going to be record breaking.
We’re going to need a few bottles of wine for this finale, it sounds like.
Scheana: Yes. [Laughs]
What are your personal rose and thorns from the season?
Scheana: The thorn is Tom and Rachel. The rose, honestly, I think is just all of us coming together for Ariana. It rekindled some friendships and the fact that we could just all put our shit aside and come together for Ariana at the end of the day, that’s all that matters.
You’ve taped the finale, you’ve taped the reunion… I know you were asked this on Watch What Happens Live recently but do you see a way back into the group for Tom or Raquel?
Scheana: No.
Brandi Glanville recently inserted herself in the Scandoval and called you out over Twitter. How do you feel about that situation and where do you stand with Brandi today?
Scheana: Brandi and I are good. We actually text and we’ve been trying to plan a podcast swap for two years now. We’re trying to do each other’s podcasts so I think that’s going to happen very soon.
She did text me and apologize and she reacted to a headline without seeing the context. I was not clapping back at her or saying anything about her, I was just responding to a fan and pointing out that the difference [with Scandoval and my situation with Brandi] is that this was someone’s best friend. That’s all I was saying.
She reacted to a headline that said I was clapping back at her and I was like, “that has nothing to do with you. This is what I responded to.” And she said, “oh my bad. Yeah, let’s do each other’s podcasts.”
Kind of like a full Housewife move. [Laughs]
Scheana: Totally.
Last question and we’ll end on a fun note: Let’s say Scheana is putting together her own Girl’s Trip. Where are you going and who from Bravo are you bringing with you?
Scheana: Oh, I don’t know! I’d have to think about that one. [Laughs] I mean, obviously Ariana, Paige [from Summer House], gotta get a couple Housewives in there like Dolores and Teresa [from The Real Housewives of New Jersey]. We like Madison and Olivia from Southern Charm, maybe bring back some Shahs like MJ and GG.
I don’t know where we’re going… somewhere tropical.
