The BBC is adding another reboot to its roster with Survivor, just days after ordering a reboot of the MTV series The Osbournes.

According to Deadline, the BBC has commissioned a new series of Survivor set to air in the UK market sometime in 2023. Banjay’s Remarkable Entertainment is producing.

The series is set to feature 20 contestants competing in physical and mental challenges across 16 episodes but that is all of the details the organization has released, for now: The BBC will confirm the host, casting details, and filming location in the coming months.

Survivor is a global television hit and to be able to bring one of TV’s most successful formats to audiences in the UK in a uniquely BBC way is a very exciting prospect indeed,” said BBC Director Of Unscripted Kate Phillips.

Added Executive Producer Natalka Znak: “Survivor is ‘the greatest gameshow on earth’ for a reason – it has everything – reality, adventure, drama, and the ultimate game.”

The Survivor reboot news comes just days after the BBC confirmed it is rebooting MTV reality series The Osbournes and competition series Gladiators, an updated version of American Gladiators.

BBC Orders UK-Based Reboot Of MTV’s The Osbournes

Earlier this week, BBC Documentaries head of commissioning Clare Sillery revealed that the network has ordered a reboot of the popular reality series, capturing the famous family’s move back to the UK.

“20 years ago the Osbournes left Britain for a life in LA. Now they are coming ‘Home to Roost’, back to their family home, pretty much as they left it all those years ago,” the network head said in a statement obtained by Digital Spy.

“In this new series BBC viewers will be able to follow the family as they settle back into their new life in a Buckinghamshire village,” continued the statement. “It promises to be a funny, moving and honest insight into their new life back in the UK.”

The Osbournes was a pioneer in the reality TV space, airing for four seasons on MTV between 2002 and 2005. The original series took viewers behind-the-scenes of Black Sabbath lead singer Ozzy Osbourne, his wife Sharon, and their kids Kelly and Jack. The famous couple shares another child together, Aimée, who infamously decided not to appear on the MTV series.

As Deadline points out, Survivor has been a massive hit worldwide. It was first aired in Sweden back in 1997 and was picked up for two epic seasons by ITV back in 2001 but has not aired a local version for the UK market since. It isn’t the only big reality format making a comeback, however, as competitor ITV has ordered a reboot of Big Brother, also set to debut next year.

The UK-based Survivor reboot will premiere sometime in 2023.
