‘Selling Sunset’ Season 4 Review: Just Call It The Christine Quinn Show

Season 4 is the show's best yet.

Selling Sunset is back on Netflix today with an explosive Season 4 and if you thought the drama was about to slow down any time soon, you would be severely mistaken.

The real estate reality series is a crown jewel in the unscripted department at Netflix and if the season’s ten episodes are any indication, this franchise is only getting started. When things pick up, we’re taken inside the Oppenheim Group once again but this time, there are a few new agents to get used to.

Christine Quinn, clearly the breakout star of the series, is busy being newly married, nine months pregnant, and shopping for a very reasonable 10,000 sq ft. house, and hasn’t been around the office as much. As a result, Jason Oppenheim decides to bring in Emma Hernan as a new full-time agent and surprise, surprise, she has a massive issue with Christine. Because this is reality TV, of course.

Emma quickly attempts to integrate herself into the group and while it may be because she hates Christine is absolutely amazing, funny, and charismatic, the group automatically accepts her into the fold. Meanwhile, fellow newcomer Vanessa Villa doesn’t get such an easy ride from the other agents after joining Team Christine early into the season, but I have a funny feeling that becoming a fan favourite is about to fix that.

While the houses are exceptional and definitely a caliber above Million Dollar Listing (sorry, Bravo!), they are definitely just a backdrop to the office politics this season.

Chrishell Stause, who spent the last year competing on Dancing With The Stars and teasing a will-they or won’t-they relationship with her pro dancer, spends most of her time this season once again trying to convince the other women that Christine is just no good. And while she may have the odd point here and there, it just comes across as if she feels like she should be the true queen bee and not Christine, the one who actually had pre-existing relationships with the other women before Chrishell even arrived on the scene. While Chrishell gives off a valiant effort at taking down Christine, fans will surely have a different perspective once they binge all ten episodes.

Because so much of the drama focuses on Christine and Chrishell this season, other cast members are left to pick up the pieces in the background, one of those being Heather Rae Young, now Heather Rae El Moussa. After getting engaged to HGTV star (and occasional hothead) Tarek El Moussa, Heather just wants to spend the season planning her nuptials and selling houses—until she hears that Christine has been dogging her in the press.

Heather vs. Christine is the true feud of the season but I’m left feeling that the show didn’t exactly dive into their issues head-on. It’s not until the season finale that we get an epic confrontation, with Christine being willing to chat with both Heather and Tarek and the supposedly-very happy couple storming off in the process. While there doesn’t seem to be any resolution on the horizon, it does make for great TV. And TV Deets owes both Christine and Heather a bit of an apology as we seem to have caused some of their issues this season. Ooops!

If you’re new to the Selling Sunset franchise, now is the time to hop on board. If you pay attention all the way until the end of the season, you’ll meet the cast of Selling The OC, a Newport Beach-based spinoff and just this week, the streaming service also revealed that Selling Tampa, the first series to feature an all Black and all female real estate team, is also on its way.

If you’ve been a fan of Selling Sunset all along, Season 4 is going to deliver. The fashion is amped up, the houses are amped up and of course, the drama is amped up as well. And for those asking… No, Davina has still not sold that $72 million house.

Selling Sunset Season 4 is available now on Netflix.
