HBO Max, now known as just Max, is set to add four new unscripted series to the updated streaming service after canceling all previous reality originals, reports indicate.
The streamer — which is rebranding and will launch as Max on May 23rd — has announced dating series Love and Translation, adventure series Survive The Raft, home decor series Barbie Dream House Challenge, and true crime entry Lost Women of Highway 20, which is produced by Octavia Spencer, reports Deadline.
The news of the four new unscripted series comes after the former network HBO Max was forced to hit the pause button on any unscripted originals work after merging with Warner Bros. and canceled multiple series like The Sweet Life Los Angeles, Legendary, and FBoy Island.
According to Deadline’s report, these four new shows will not be exclusive to the updated service and will also appear on Discovery+, which is remaining a standalone streamer and some of Warner Bros. Discovery’s other networks like TLC, Discovery Channel, HGTV and ID.
Kathleen Finch — who is the Chairman and Chief Content Officer, Warner Bros. Discovery’s U.S. Networks Group — said there was a “long list” of unscripted Max originals and Discovery+ originals that have also been turned into Max originals “still in the hopper,” as reported by Deadline.
“It’s a very iterative process where we really work together,” she explained. “Once we start getting the data back to see what’s working, we will then figure out what would be more valuable for Max that we either could move over or create new but we don’t have any exact plans right now to go out with a new slate of Max originals.”
The streamer did not specify premiere dates for the above mentioned unscripted series but expect them shortly after the updated service launches May 23rd.
