MTV is combining the Teen Mom franchise into one show called Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, the Paramount-owned network has revealed.
The somewhat shocking news was announced just yesterday (May 18) at the network’s presentation to advertisers and comes following the news that the network is rebooting another one of their hit properties, The Hills.
According to a report from Deadline, Teen Mom: The Next Chapter will combine the casts of Teen Mom OG and Teen Mom 2, as originally reported by our friends at The Ashley.
“The casts of Teen Mom OG and Teen Mom 2 are each currently in different stages of motherhood – some have kids in diapers, while others are now parenting teenagers! But they all share the unique experience of momming so young,” reads a description from MTV. “For the first time, the moms and all their stories will be brought together in one supersized series that focuses on the unique bond this ‘Mom Group’ shares as they face the reality of parenthood and adulting while entering this next phase of life together.”
Teen Mom: The Next Chapter won’t be the only Teen Mom show on the air, however. Despite combining these two shows, Teen Mom: Young & Pregnant will exist as its own entity, as will Teen Mom: Girls Night In and Teen Mom: Family Reunion, so MTV still has some faith in the franchise.
It is expected that not all of the original stars will return for this rebooted series.
The news to switch up the franchise comes amid low ratings and a lack of storyline, according to The Ashley. MTV had been playing around with the title Teen Mom: Legacy, much like Bravo is considering with The Real Housewives of New York City, but changed the working title of the series with their Upfronts announcement.
Teen Mom: The Next Chapter is set to air on MTV in late 2022.
