The RuPaul’s Drag Race franchise is expanding across Asia with new editions expected in Thailand, India, Japan, Singapore, and South Korea.
According to Deadline, O4 Media has scored a deal to represent World of Wonder’s RuPaul’s Drag Race format across the region. It is not yet known when or which territory will feature the next spinoff to debut.
RuPaul’s Drag Race, which began as a Logo TV original, is a drag competition series that sees drag queens compete for the title of Next Drag Race Superstar and has already been adapted in the UK, France, Italy, Canada, Spain, Australia and New Zealand.
O4 will also take the spinoff Secret Celebrity Drag Race into Asia with the new deal, according to Deadline. This version of the series sees “celebrities” attempt to pull off the lip sync performances the show has become known for while in drag.
With the popularity of streaming, it is no surprise to see the Drag Race franchise expand into Asia. Many countries have seen success with the format, with Canada recently launching Canada’s Drag Race: Canada Vs. The World which is set to see an appearance by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and countries like Italy and Australia having breakout seasons of their local versions.
Clearly, RuPaul’s Drag Race continues to be a hit.
