RHOC star Braunwyn Windham-Burke has come out as a lesbian in a revealing new interview with GLAAD.
Braunwyn, who has appeared on Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Orange County for the past two seasons, released a statement on her official Instagram page sharing the news.
“It feels so good to finally be living my truth,” she posted. “I am a lesbian. At 43 years old, I’ve finally been able to accept this part of myself and I’ve realized there are no rules about when someone should come out. This is my time.”
In an interview with GLAAD, Braunwyn expanded on the news.
“I’m finally comfortable enough to say: I like women,” she told the organization. “I’m gay. I’m a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. I’m a lesbian. And it has taken me 42 years to say that, but I’m so proud of where I am right now and I’m so happy where I am. To be able to be comfortable in my own skin after so long is just so nice.”
With the revelation, Braunwyn Windham-Burke becomes the first openly gay Housewife in the franchise. She is currently married to Sean Burke and said in the interview with GLAAD that she plans to stay with her husband.
“Honestly, we are in uncharted territory. I don’t have a role model for this,” she explained. “I don’t have anyone to go to for answers. So right now, we’re just doing our own way. You know, Sean and I are still married. I plan on staying married…We’re raising the kids together. He’s my best friend. He knows the girl I’m dating; her name is Kris. I mean, we go to parties together! She came over the other night, hung out with the family, had dinner with us. I mean, it’s only as weird as you make it.”
