Porsha Williams catapulted to popularity with her Season 5 debut on The Real Housewives of Atlanta and since announcing her departure from the series after nine seasons, she is now starring in her own spinoff, Porsha’s Family Matters, premiering tonight on Bravo.
In the season premiere, viewers are introduced to Porsha’s family, including her mother Diane, sister Lauren, and cousin Londie, and it becomes clear rather quickly that not everyone is happy about her new relationship with Simon Guobadia.
As Real Housewives of Atlanta fans are probably aware, Porsha made headlines over the summer after her relationship with Simon was made public and it is pretty clear why. On the last season of RHOA, viewers were introduced to new Friend of the Housewives Falynn Guobadia and she even hosted the women at her house, where they met her husband. Fast forward a few months and Falynn and Simon are done for good, while Porsha and Simon are now engaged.
The show is an absolute train-wreck from start to finish but in the best way possible. This is The Real Housewives of Atlanta through and through and it is clear why Bravo decided to move forward with the spinoff, despite the original premise actually being more about Porsha’s life as an activist and businesswoman.
Not only do Diane, Lauren, and Londie bring the laughs by challenging Porsha Williams on her relationship every step of the way, but Dennis McKinley, the father of Porsha’s daughter Pilar and the most recent relationship RHOA fans are used to seeing, also makes appearances throughout, adding to the messiness. Hint: It doesn’t appear that these two are done completely in the love department, either. *sips tea*
Much of the first episode is spent going over the time line of events when it comes to Porsha and Simon’s relationship and by the end of the hour, fans are going to be more confused than ever because the two certainly do not clear up any misconceptions. In fact, Simon’s posting of their relationship on social media just plays an even bigger role on the show and adds to the confusing set of rumours floating around about their relationship. We’ve seen many questionable love interests on RHOA over the years but Simon may just take the cake.
Whether you were a fan of Porsha before or are a new fan now, one thing is for sure: This spinoff is messy, chaotic—and very entertaining.
