Ratings: MTV’s ‘The Real Friends Of WeHo’ Hits Season 1 Highs

Don't get your hopes up for a Season 2 just yet, however.

MTV’s The Real Friends Of WeHo hit season 1 highs in the ratings this past Friday (February 17), according to just-released numbers.

Episode 5 of the West Hollywood-based docuseries earned a 0.07 share and 189,000 live viewers according to Showbuzz Daily, the largest audience for any Season 1 episode — even beating the series premiere (0.06 / 186,000).

This is quite the turnaround, considering the week prior brought in a season low 0.03 in the P18-49 demo and just 130,000 live viewers.

The MTV reality series has not had the easiest launch, with the show immediately receiving backlash upon announcement due to casting troubled star Todrick Hall. In addition, MTV — which is the new home for RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 15 — has changed the episodes to 60 minutes from 90 to accomodate The Real Friends Of WeHo.

RuPaul’s Drag Race Untucked, which is supposed to be an after show for Drag Race, has been airing after #RealFriendsOfWeHo instead of directly following the main show like in every previous season. Recently, MTV announced that Drag Race episodes would be going back to 90 minutes, presumably after The Real Friends Of WeHo wraps Season 1.

While this is a marked improvement for the series, live ratings for the show are still disastrous. While the series no doubt makes gains once DVR and delayed viewing is taken into account, there is just no getting around how low under 200K viewers really is. If MTV decides to renew the series, it will be to keep an all-LGBTQIA+ cast on the network and who’s really arguing with that?

In addition to Todrick, the series stars Brad Goreski, Curtis Hamilton, Dorion Renaud, Jaymes Vaughan, and Joey Zauzig.

The Real Friends Of WeHo airs Fridays on MTV.
