kykNET has set a premiere date for its latest Real Housewives franchise in South Africa with Die Real Housewives Van Die Wynlande premiering this April, according to news reports.

Die Real Housewives Van Die Wynlande translates loosely to The Real Housewives of the Winelands and the new series will be filmed near beautiful Stellenbosch, South Africa, which is located in the Western Cape and about an hours drive from Cape Town.

The new show is a partnership between MultiChoice, M-Net and NBCUniversal Formats and is the latest South African Real Housewives franchise following the success of The Real Housewives of Johannesburg, The Real Housewives of Durban, The Real Housewives of Cape Town, The Real Housewives of Gqeberha, and The Real Housewives of Pretoria, also known as Die Real Housewives Van Pretoria.

Die Real Housewives Van Die Wynlande will be the second Real Housewives franchise in Afrikaans following the launch of Die Real Housewives Van Pretoria last year.

The area is known as a high-end and super luxe wine country so adding another show here seems to make sense considering wine is a main feature of both The Real Housewives and South African culture.

According to a quick Wikipedia search, Afrikaans is originally a West Germanic language that is now used by at least 15 to 23 million people in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

According to a report from News 24, the cast for Season 1 of Die Real Housewives Van Die Wynlande is set to be revealed on March 31 and includes “former beauty queens, entrepreneurs, a fitness model, a medical doctor, a singer that exchanged the microphone for corporate life, and a woman married to the head of one of the oldest South African companies.”

The Real Housewives franchise is experiencing huge growth in Africa with two editions recently launched in Nigeria including The Real Housewives of Lagos and The Real Housewives of Abuja. In addition, the MultiChoice Africa has also launched Kenya’s first franchise with The Real Housewives of Nairobi and according to our sources, more cities are in the pipeline.

“The scenery of nature and the beautiful towns are truly one of the main characters of the series,” explains series director Pascual Wakefield. “Viewers will definitely relate to every woman, sit on the edge of their seats when things get serious and be emotionally moved at times. There will also be a lot of laughter – all in one episode. These women lead luxurious lives with a lot of heart.”

Red Pepper is the production company behind the new series and according to team member Lindi Lucouw, viewers will not be disappointed: “Our six colourful women have strong opinions and will definitely get the country talking. Viewers can expect drama, emotion and punchy humour – sometimes very tongue-in-cheek.

Where can I watch Die Real Housewives Van Die Wynlande?

Die Real Housewives Van Die Wynlande is a kykNET exclusive (DStv 144) and premieres on Thursday, 20 April, at 20:00 local time.

While some African franchises have made their way on to streaming services like Hayu and Tubi, nothing has been announced for Wynlande and with the show’s primary language being Afrikaans, it may be a while before it becomes available for international audiences.
