‘Southern Charm’ Star Kathryn Dennis Apologizes For Sending Racist Messages On Social Media
Southern Charm star Kathryn Dennis has apologized for sending racist messages on social media.
On May 11, screenshots surfaced on social media which showed Kathryn engaging in a conversation with radio host Tamika Gadsen where she used a monkey emoji, among other tactics, to bully the radio host.
According to Us Weekly, the drama started after Gadsen called out a local beauty salon owner for holding a rally in support of President Donald Trump. The salon owner turned out to be a friend of the reality star’s, and the Southern Charm star went off on the radio host.
“This is what happens when a Black woman in #Charleston speaks up against white supremacy in the form of MAGA rallies,” the host tweeted on Monday, attached with pictures of her communications with Kathryn.
“My comments re: Mylk Bar prompted this @BravoTV ‘actor’ @KathrynDennis to taunt me with monkey emojis in my DMs. Along with a whole host of other names.”
Kathryn has since apologized for her behaviour, taking to Twitter to address the situation.
“I want to acknowledge that using a monkey emoji in my text was offensive, and from the bottom of my heart I sincerely apologize to anyone and everyone I hurt,” she posted. “Although the context was not my intention, there are no ‘if ands or buts’ that excuse me..”
“I did not give it thought, and it was and is wrong,” she continued. “I know I am not that person. I know and will do better.”
This isn’t the only controversy to be following the cast of Southern Charm in recent years.
Thomas Ravenel, who was once the star of the show, was fired by Bravo after allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced. Then, his friend and sometimes guest star J.D. went down after rumours surfaced about his poor behaviour. Meanwhile, Shep Rose got into trouble last year after he posted a video to social media where he appeared to be mocking homeless people on the streets of New York City. And this is only the stuff that has happened off camera.

Bravo surely won’t be happy by this controversy and it couldn’t come at a worse time for Kathryn and her co-stars.
Southern Charm, like many other Bravo shows, is currently on pause due to the coronavirus pandemic. So while Kathryn may feel like her job and check are secure, we wouldn’t be so sure. A long pause in production could be exactly what the network needs in order to truly reboot the show because at this point, and with this behaviour, are we really that invested in this group any more?
Southern Charm is expected to return later this year.
