‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Is Now The Most-Awarded Reality Competition Show In History Following The 2020 Emmys

Shantay, you stay.

Shantay, you stay. RuPaul’s Drag Race is now the most-awarded reality competition show in TV history following the 2020 Emmys, according to new reports.

Entertainment Weekly did the math and confirmed the feat, adding that the drag competition series has won 19 Emmy awards in total across the 11 years it has been on the air. (RuPaul’s Drag Race aired on Logo before making the move to Logo in 2018.)

Over the weekend, the show was awarded six Emmys including RuPaul himself in the Competition Host category. As the outlet points out, Drag Race has now topped ABC’s Dancing With The Stars for the most wins. That show had held the record at seventeen Emmys over the last 15 years.

The news comes after RuPaul’s Drag Race picked up six awards at the 2020 Emmys, continuing to break the mold in the reality categories.

It caps a big year for the show, which has been renewed for Season 13 along with spinoffs All Stars and Untucked. As previously reported, the franchise has been performing strongly in the ratings for the VH1, so it is no surprise that the higher-ups would want to order more. All of the shows are produced by World of Wonder.

In addition to the show’s success stateside, the Canadian version recently wrapped its first season on Crave and Logo TV, and a UK-edition launched last year to rave reviews.

RuPaul’s Drag Race Vegas Revue airs Fridays on VH1. The original is expected to return in 2021.
