RHOSLC’s Mary Cosby says she is “disappointed” in how her marriage was introduced to Bravo viewers.
In a new interview with Us Weekly, Mary explains that although she was ready to share more about her life as cameras rolled on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, she didn’t expect her storyline to be so heavily featured in the Season 1 trailer and announcement.
“I was not expecting it to be dropped on social media,” she said. “That was more of a disappointment for me because I feel like social media is a place I don’t feel comfortable in.”
“I just said my truth and I was ready to air it,” she explained. “I felt like it was time and I felt like it was the right thing to do. … I mean, it is unconventional, but it’s not unheard of, I guess, in other countries.”
As RHOSLC viewers are well aware, Mary’s grandmother asked her to take over the family church and as a part of the deal, marry her husband. The two did in fact marry and have a teenage son together and she explains that they are truly in love.
Mary Cosby’s marriage has been a hot topic on and off of Bravo’s RHOSLC.
“I think it started changing into a loving relationship when I started wanting a son … probably two [or] three years into the marriage,” she said. “I think that’s when I felt that I knew that this was my life, once I started having that craving [to be] a mom and [have] a family. … I have no regrets, I have no shame.”
Because of the way her storyline was introduced to Bravo viewers, Mary feels that she hasn’t been able to create her own narrative and as a result, has shied away from the show’s rabid social media fanbase. “They put that story right there with me,” she dished. “It didn’t set it in a good light for me.”
“Sometimes I read it and sometimes I respond back to them and block them. Then sometimes I read it and [think], like, ‘OK, that’s your opinion,” she says of fan comments. “I try to separate it and I try not to put emotion into it. … In my mind, I’m not here to make sense. I’m here to tell you, ‘This is what Mary is and this is what I’m about.’ And this is my story and you don’t have to accept it again.”
Fan reaction to Mary Cosby hasn’t exactly been overwhelmingly positive so it’s understandable that she would have some feelings about RHOSLC and considering that she hasn’t been seen much in the second half of Season 1, things are now starting to make a bit more sense.
That said, this is 2021 and Bravo and The Real Housewives are certainly not a new concept so at this point, nothing should have come as a surprise to any of the women.
