‘Real Housewives Of Potomac’ Star Candiace Dillard Apologizes For Past Homophobic Tweets

Real Housewives of Potomac star Candiace Dillard has apologized for past homophobic tweets.

“I want to address tweets that resurfaced from nearly 10 years ago that may have offended people I love dearly and those who have supported me as a Potomac Housewife,” she posted on her Twitter page following reporting that she had made fun of gay people in past tweets.

“To my loyal fanbase, particularly the LGBTQIA+ viewers, thank you for your unwavering support. I love you,” she continued.

“I, alone, am responsible for my words and I deeply regret saying anything that could hurt my friends, colleagues, family and fans,” she explained. “At the time I was a private citizen, speaking carelessly and crassly as we often do, and for my lack of a better judgement, I am sorry.”

She added, “While I have always considered myself an ally of the LGBTQIA+ community, I recognize that my words were insensitive, and undermine the support, reverence, and love I have consistently tried to demonstrate through advocacy for LGBTQIA+ rights and causes, as well as my personal relationships with those who identify as LGBTQIA+.”

Past homophobic tweets

As previously reported, Bravo is facing calls for Candiace to be fired for her past homophobic tweets, especially considering the network fired Vanderpump Rules stars Stassi Schroeder, Kristen Doute, Max Boyens, and Brett Caprioni for what was described as past racist behaviour.

Among Candiace’s homophobic tweets were the following comments:

  • “Queenie gay men irk me.”
  • “I’m personally turned off by men who r too into fashion. It’s a fine line. When u do too much, I’m disgusted. Makes me think ‘gay’.”
  • “I think my officemate might be a little gay. He does some strange things…..makes me raise an eyebrow here and there.”
  • When apparently live tweeting The Real Housewives of Atlanta a few years ago, she posted: “Phaedra’s husband is so AWKWARD. ughhhhh. I think he might be a little gay too.”

While it was appropriate for Candiace Dillard to apologize, we’re not sure this is sufficient. The majority of her apology is really just an explanation and at the end of the day, there is no excuse for what she posted.

Plus, if Bravo is going to maintain credibility, they need to ensure their decisions remain consistent and fair across their shows. In addition to the Vanderpump Rules cast, let’s not forget that Bravo also fired Below Deck Mediterranean star Peter Hunziker after he posted a racist meme to his Instagram Story.

The Real Housewives of Potomac airs Sundays on Bravo and Slice.
