Nene Leakes Isn’t Sure About Returning To ‘The Real Housewives Of Atlanta’: “I Feel Like It’s A Big Conversation I Need To Have With The Network”
Nene Leakes isn’t sure about returning to The Real Housewives of Atlanta.
“I don’t know. I just don’t know,” Nene said in a new interview with PEOPLE about this season of RHOA and whether she is likely to return next season.
“I got back and forth with it every day. I feel like it’s a big conversation I need to have with the network and with production. Because if they value their talent in some sort of way, then we need to talk,” she explained. “We need to come up with some sort of compromise here.”
She continued, “This time, being quarantined [amid the coronavirus pandemic] has really made me appreciate a lot of things about my life anyway.”
“I keep saying to people, ‘I want my life back,” she said. “I can’t have these girls fighting with me on TV for no reason anymore. I’ve got to move forward. And if that’s all you want from me, I have to move on and I got to go. Me and my wig got to leave, honey.”

Even though she didn’t appear on all of the episodes this season, Nene was a big part of the drama on RHOA this year and it looks like that will continue on tonight’s reunion.
Nene isn’t the only Bravo star, or Real Housewife, however, to have expressed some of the same feelings about participating in their particular show.
Just recently, an editor on Vanderpump Rules was fired after it was revealed that she was responsible almost solely for embarrassing Scheana Shay. While Nene didn’t reveal whether she was upset with her edit, she did specify that she doesn’t want to feel like she is up against her co-stars each and every season.
Plus, there’s that crazy situation with Lisa Vanderpump, where she was basically ousted from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and thrown under the bus by the production company on that show, Evolution Media.
Because Lisa was such a big part of that show, producers thought it would be a no-brainer to revolve season 9 around her. However, producers underestimated Lisa’s fan base and once the season hit the air, it was pretty clear that she no longer felt connected to the show, cast, or crew, in the same way.

That same production company then fired longtime Housewives Tamra Judge and Vicki Gunvalson on The Real Housewives of Orange County, shocking fans of the franchise. And we won’t even get into Bethenny Frankel’s comments about her time on The Real Housewives of New York City.
Nene may be right in wanting to discuss her issues with production and with Bravo, but if we were to guess, it might fall on flat ears. At this point, there seems to be a clear strategy to separate the stars from the network in some ways so that fans aren’t totally thrown when certain characters don’t return.
That said, the network has said goodbye to so many big personalities in the last year that it would be nice to see some of the veterans stick around a little longer. Nene is such a massive part of the show and of the group that it would be odd to see her off the show entirely.
While she did exit the series temporarily a few years ago, many fans state to this day that RHOA got immediately better once she returned to the franchise after taking a break.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta airs Sundays on Bravo and Slice.
