The Real Housewives of New York City returns for season 9 tonight on both Bravo and Slice and there’s a new Housewife in town. Tinsley Mortimer is a former New York City socialite who is set to stir things up with the Housewives and sources reveal exclusively to TV Deets that despite some reports out there, Bravo executives are very happy with her first season.
Tinsley returns to New York City following a dramatic and very unhealthy relationship with Alexander Fanjul and while some of the Housewives are excited to welcome her to the group, others seem immediately threatened. Regardless, Tinsley is expected to make waves this season and will certainly deliver.
“Tinsley was amazing this season and people will be surprised with how authentic and relatable she is,” a source close to production of RHONY tells TV Deets exclusively. “Tinsley is no shrinking violet and does not hold back, she not only brings the drama, she also has a compelling storyline that is very real, very raw, and refreshingly honest.”
Part of Tinsley’s storyline will focus on her moving on from Fanjul and trying to regain her spot in the city’s social scene but according to another insider, it won’t be an easy road for her to travel. “The new girl always gets hazed, it’s a Housewives tradition,” a source close to the Housewives reveals. “Part of that is leaking false narratives to the press in an effort to formulate a negative perception of the new girl before the viewers have the chance to judge for themselves. From a psychological perspective, it places the new cast member at a disadvantage in the minds of viewers right out of the gate. It’s an effort to exploit the rule of first impressions, but the viewers are smarter than that.”
Tinsley isn’t the only cast member who has faced negative stories before appearing on the show; Dorinda Medley has often been the target of negative press, and sources once questioned whether Bethenny Frankel was behind the spin.
The newbie isn’t letting the drama between her co-stars get her down, however. “Tinsley is definitely central to the storyline this season and holds her own, otherwise she wouldn’t be holding an apple,” a member of the cast reveals.
Clearly, Tinsley is set to make her mark once again on New York City and we haven’t been this excited to meet a new Housewife in a long time. She seems like a tough woman and will be able to hold her own with the rest of the Housewives and we can’t wait to see who she aligns with — and who she doesn’t — after tonight’s premiere.
The Real Housewives of New York City premieres tonight at 9pm ET on Bravo and Slice.
