Chef Kiko Opens Up After Being Fired On ‘Below Deck Mediterranean’: “Now, Everything’s OK”

He seems to be doing fine since leaving the Bravo hit.

Chef Kiko doesn’t seem to be too phased after being fired by Captain Sandy Yawn on last night’s Below Deck Mediterranean, opening up about his departure in a new interview with Bravo’s The Daily Dish.

As Below Deck Med fans are well aware, Captain Sandy made the decision to let Kiko go after that ill-fated Vegas-themed dinner. “I felt very bad,” he shared of the moment he was fired. “That was crazy.”

Despite hitting it off with both his co-workers and the charter guests, Sandy started to provide some feedback to Kiko in recent episodes about both his plating and how organized (or disorganized) he was in the galley, as pointed out by The Daily Dish.

Chef Kiko, for his part, was shocked at the criticism. “[When] she said that, I was like, whoa,” he revealed. “Like, I’m giving not 100 percent; I’m giving, like, a thousand percent of myself here.”

Fans are divided over Kiko’s performance but seem to be pointing towards Hannah Ferrier as having something to do with his departure. While Kiko acknowledges he took Hannah’s advice when it came to the Vegas dinner, he also takes ownership for the meal overall.

“I’m not putting [this] on Hannah. Totally not putting [this] on Hannah. That was on me,” he explained, adding that he thought the meal was “horrible”. “I was listening [to Hannah’s] menu. That wasn’t my menu.”

While it was probably tough to relive things on television, Kiko seems to be in a good head space when it comes to his experience on the show. “Now, everything’s OK. I’m gonna get my board and go surf. Eat good food. Cook for my friends,” he shared. “And I was feeling awesome [when I left the boat],” he continued, adding “[Here comes the] positive vibe again.”
