Big Brother Canada Season 8 Ceasing Production Immediately Due To Coronavirus, No Winner Will Be Declared

Global has announced that Big Brother Canada season 8 is ceasing production immediately due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement, host Arisa Cox confirmed on behalf of Global and Insight Productions that the show would be stopping production right away.

Big Brother Canada is a labour of love for so many, and even though it hurts to say goodbye to the season, it’s the right thing to do,” she said, according to Global News. “On behalf of the incredible people who put this show together, thank you to everyone who started this journey with us. Please take care and be safe!”

According to the report, Houseguests will be able to use their social media as of April 1 and there will be no official winner for season 8. The show also has no plans to resume production on the current season and will wrap with two final episodes airing Wednesday, March 25 at 7 p.m. ET/PT and Wednesday, April 1 at 7 p.m. ET/PT.

Coronavirus Concerns

To say this has been a difficult season for production would be an understatement.

As previously reported, Insight Productions were taking crucial steps to protect both the Houseguests and staff amid the coronavirus pandemic but obviously, it just wouldn’t have been enough.

According to an announcement from the show just this week, many new procedures had been put in place.

“Insight is taking every precaution to keep our crew and house guests safe on Big Brother Canada while delivering programming to audiences across the country when they need it most,” the production company said in a statement.

“The safety of the crew and house guests is paramount to Insight and as such we are taking every precaution to ensure a healthy set and workplace. Many additional practices have been implemented including, but not limited to, placing sanitizers at every entrance; daily professional cleaning and disinfection of all edit suites, control rooms, studio spaces, and offices; elimination of the live audience; adjusting the creative so that more staff can work from home, etc.”

“Insight and Corus continue to aggressively monitor the production and are constantly evaluating our practices and adjusting if necessary,” continues the statement. “The onsite crew members are checked for symptoms prior to entry on a daily basis.

“We are continuing to keep our staff and house guests updated on a regular basis as the situation evolves.”

Jamar Lee Removed

Before the coronavirus pandemic heated up, production was dealing with another set of issues on the show.

As previously reported, Houseguest Jamar Lee was removed from the house after a “tense” house meeting. After the shocking news broke, production and Lee confirmed the removal in a set of statements.

“Insight Productions has made the difficult decision to remove a houseguest as a result of behaviour which occurred that was a breach of the Big Brother house rules,” read a statement from Insight Productions.

“We at Global and Insight Productions take the rules of this competition seriously and with respect to all houseguests past and present, the confines of the Big Brother house can be trying, sometimes leading to a clash of opinions and emotions in an isolated environment,” continued the statement. “We handle these situations with care and caution, protecting the well-being of our houseguests and ensuring the integrity of this long-standing production.”

“I take full responsibility for my actions – I lost my cool and that’s not OK. I’ve always stood behind what I believe in and I’m sorry if I let people down,” Lee said in his statement. “I want to thank everyone for their love and support, it really means a lot… this isn’t the last of me! You feel me?”

At this time, the network has not announced plans for another season of Big Brother Canada.
