‘Big Brother Canada’ Greenlit For Season 9, Host Arisa Cox Promoted To Executive Producer

Big Brother Canada has been greenlit for Season 9 and longtime host Arisa Cox has been upped to Executive Producer, according to a July 13 press release.

Corus released the exciting news to media this morning, confirming that Arisa would be keeping her host role in addition to taking on more responsibility as an EP.

“We have reached a turning point in history and as the fight against racism and issues facing Black, Indigenous and people of colour around the world have been pulled into the spotlight, Big Brother Canada is seizing this moment to become a leader in the reality TV world,” she said in a statement.

“Our top priority is bold, lasting change by embracing the rich diversity of Canada in front of and behind the camera,” she continued. “Both are vital. And as one of the biggest and best reality TV shows in the country, we have both the ability and the responsibility to do just that. I’m thrilled to join Erin and the producing team, and work together to ensure Big Brother Canada meets this moment.”

Cox joins John Brunton, Erin Brock, Eric Abboud, and Trevor Boris as Executive Producers. The show is produced by Insight Productions Ltd. in association with Corus Entertainment and Endemol Shine.

The news comes after Corus Entertainment and Global, the network that airs the show, cancelled Season 8 amid the coronavirus pandemic. After having aired for only a few weeks, the network made the decision to suspend production on the show in order to protect the safety of the Houseguests and crew.

Big Brother Canada is a labour of love for so many, and even though it hurts to say goodbye to the season, it’s the right thing to do,” she said, according to Global News. “On behalf of the incredible people who put this show together, thank you to everyone who started this journey with us. Please take care and be safe!”

Big Brother Canada will return for Season 9 in 2021.
