Bethenny Frankel Says She Didn’t Leave ‘Real Housewives’ Over Money, Likens It To Being A ‘High-Class Prostitute’
Not only is she happy and in love with boyfriend Paul Bernon, but the former RHONY star has announced a new show with streaming service HBO Max, titled The Big Shot With Bethenny.
In an interview promoting her new show, she opened up about what it feels like to be leaving the Bravo franchise behind and Bethenny being Bethenny, she compared it to being a “high-class prostitute.”
“Everyone thinks I left because of money. I wasn’t leaving because of money,” she told Variety amid rumors that Bravo has been slashing salaries around the franchise. “I was staying because of money.”
“It no longer became this platform to promote my business, because I had done that, and there was more promoting sort of new and questionable businesses than the legitimate ones at this point,” she continued, alluding to Ramona Singer, Luann de Lesseps, and Sonja Morgan’s many ventures over the years.
“I just thought to myself, a bartender, a high-class prostitute who’s making a lot of money, you gotta sometimes make a move, and just say, ‘Let me just do what feels right to me,’” she joked. “I just was looking for a reason. And I just was ready to do it. I didn’t want to be there anymore. I didn’t want to be there anymore. I mean, honestly — I just didn’t.”
While it is a massive move to leave a show as successful as RHONY, it definitely makes a lot of sense when you hear more from Bethenny’s perspective.
After all, she is one of the true examples of making the most out of the opportunity and while it remains unfortunate for fans that she has left, viewers also want their Housewives to be messy. With her outgrowing the franchise, it makes sense for all parties that she has walked away.
The new season of The Real Housewives of New York City premieres April 2 on Bravo. The Big Shot With Bethenny is expected to premiere on HBO Max in late 2020.
