‘Below Deck Mediterranean’: Peter Hunziker Apologizes For Posting Racist Meme On Instagram

Below Deck Mediterranean star Peter Hunziker has apologized for posting a racist meme to his Instagram Story that ended up getting him fired from the Bravo hit.

“A little over 3 months ago someone sent me a meme on social media and I thoughtlessly reposted it. I now realize how painful the imagery and symbolism is and, upon deeper consideration, I realize that the implicit bias that exists in the brief text written in the meme is offensive,” he shared to his Instagram account.

“To all those I have hurt and offended please know that I am genuinely sorry. I have always supported equal rights and equal opportunities for ALL people.”

“Be safe, stay well, and always think before you post… with love, Pete.”

As previously reported, Bravo and production company 51 Minds announced that Peter Hunziker had been fired from the show almost immediately after the meme was posted and just a few episodes into the show’s new season.

Peter Hunziker was fired at the start of the season for posting a racist meme on his Instagram Story.

“Peter Hunziker has been terminated for his racist post,” they said in an official statement at the time. “Bravo and 51 Minds are editing the show to minimize his appearance for subsequent episodes.”

His apology comes after Stassi Schroeder, Kristen Doute, Max Boyens, and Brett Caprioni were fired from Vanderpump Rules over their past racist behaviour.

While it is great to finally see an apology from Pete, viewers will understandably be questioning the timing of the apology and the fact that he still doesn’t take complete responsibility in his statement.

Below Deck Mediterranean airs Mondays on Bravo and Slice.
